Most women know about their G-spot, or at least have heard about the G-spot and how it is related to sensual sexual sensitivity and the ability to reach orgasm. Now there is a safe, in-office procedure that enhances the G-spot making it much easier for many women to reach orgasm.

Whether we are young, ‘mature’ or ‘very mature,’ the ability to enjoy our sexuality varies throughout our lives. Our early sexual years are marked by our own inexperience and often that of our partner. As young mothers, women with a career and/or both, we are often pulled in too many directions to be able to ‘relax’ and ‘enjoy’ sexual encounters. As one woman put it, “It takes too much time and energy; I just wait for it to get over!” And unfortunately for many women, by the time we figure out how to enjoy sex, our hormone levels are dropping, commonly leaving us uninterested in pursuing sexual adventure.

The G-Shot® is designed to help women who are able to have sex comfortably, both on a physical and emotional level. If sex is painful (not just boring) or if a woman has been emotionally traumatized and desires to avoid intimate contact, the G-Shot® is not for her. Physically painful sex (dyspareunia) should be evaluated and is often successfully treated. If sex is emotionally painful, counseling may be in order. Also, women who fit the normal criteria may experience varied to no effect at all from the G-Shot®.

Now that we know who is a candidate for the injection, let’s learn more about it!

Some of you may have seen the G-Shot® demonstrated on the television medical information show, “The Doctor’s.” For those of you that didn’t, we will begin with the basics:

What is the G-Shot®?

Dr. David Matlock has developed the patent pending method of enlarging and plumping up the G-Spot (Grafenberg Spot) using a bioengineered human collagen product. The G-Shot® enlarges the G-Spot to about the size of a “quarter”, giving it a larger and a more plump (3-5 mm) profile. The G-Shot® is given in the office and the procedure takes about fifteen to twenty minutes from start to finish. The injection process takes about five seconds. Though the injection lasts for different lengths of time in different women, it is not permanent and requires repeat injections to maintain the effect. One G-Shot® lasts about four to six months.

Does the G-Shot® work?

In Dr. Matlock’s initial study, 87% of women reported enhanced sexual arousal/gratification. Some women reported varied to no effect at all from the G-shot®.

Is the G-Shot® safe?

In Dr. Matlock’s pilot study, no complications were noted and the G-Shot® appeared to be safe. Though the G-Shot® is not FDA approved and is an off label use of collagen, many other studies have been performed to evaluate using collagen or collagen-like substances to help women control the loss of urine. In these studies, the substances were injected into the vaginal wall, near the urethra (the tube like structure that allows the discharge of urine from the body). Using these ‘bulking’ agents, vaginally, was first written about in 1937. Increasing use of vaginal injections since the 1970’s has resulted in many studies in the medical literature. Less than 1% of the studies for collagen treatment of urinary incontinence showed any complications at all. The complications that did occur were minor.

Does insurance pay for the G-Shot® and if not, what is the cost?

No, insurance does not cover the cost of the G-Shot® and the cost varies throughout the country.

What to expect:  Before you try and schedule your first G-Shot® treatment consultation, you probably have some questions, such as: How long will it take? How long will the results last? When can I resume sexual activity?

Here’s what you might expect at the doctor’s office from the moment you arrive until your procedure is done. (Please note that although this experience is typical, the routine at your doctor’s office may be different.)

The day of your appointment:  Allow time before your appointment for filling out forms and for consulting with the doctor or a member of his or her staff. You may also be asked about your expectations for treatment and if you have any allergies or any condition that wouldn’t make you a good candidate for the G-Shot®.

Before the procedure:  In the consultation process your doctor will educate you on the G-Spot and how to localize it. Your doctor will go over risks and complications verbally and he or she will give you a written consent as well. It is important to the doctor that every patient is completely informed of the risks, complications and alternatives to the procedure. You will then go into the examination room alone and perform a self-examination based upon the doctor’s instructions and after you are comfortable with the localization of the G-Spot you will notify the assistant and they will come in to start the procedure.

The procedure:  You will be positioned on the examination table as if you are “getting a PAP smear” and the doctor will do a pelvic exam and measurement of the G-Spot based upon your direction. He will transfer this measurement to a ruler and then a special speculum. The speculum, which has the location of the G-Spot on it, will then be inserted into the vagina and then a small needle will be used to deliver a small amount of local anesthetic in the area of the G-Spot. Then the collagen product will be injected. After this a tampon is placed (the tampon is to be removed in 4 hours). The entire G-Shot® injection procedure takes approximately 10 minutes.

After the procedure:  There’s no recovery time needed. You’re ready to get on with your day! The most common side effect following injection includes scant bleeding from the needle injection site.

Results:  Within 4 hours you can resume normal sexual activity. Results can last up to 4 to 6 months. Results do vary.
