Damion Walker, D.O. always knew that he wanted to become a doctor, but it wasn't until he was injured playing college football and then treated by Dr. Bradley W. Bruner for those injuries, that he decided he wanted to become an orthopaedic surgeon. Walker was so impressed with Dr. Bruner, and his work in orthopaedics, that he spent time shadowing Dr. Bruner while finishing his B.S. in Biology at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas in 1998.

Little did either Dr. Walker or Dr. Bruner know at that time that they would become medical partners some 13 years later. But that's what happened earlier this year, when Dr. Walker joined the physicians (including his mentor, and senior partner, Dr. Bruner) at Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine at Cypress in Wichita. After completing his orthopaedic residency, Dr. Walker sought additional expertise completing a fellowship in Orthopaedic trauma and reconstruction at St. Louis University Medical Center. Dr. Walker now has a general orthopaedic practice, including arthroscopy (knee and shoulder), trauma and fracture care, as well as total joint replacement.

Not only did Dr. Walker meet his future medical partner while attending Southwestern College, but he also met his future wife, Teresa, who was also earning her degree at Southwestern College. They have been married 14 years and have four children, ranging in age from 1 to 14 years. As you can imagine, both Dr. Walker and Teresa are kept very busy with their large family, including their children's many school and sports activities. Luckily, Teresa is from Wichita, so her many extended family members live in the area, which only adds to the family fun.

Dr. Walker really values spending time with family, and somehow finds the time to help coach his children's baseball and basketball teams. Dr. Walker still has ties to Southwestern College and Winfield as well, spending two days a month seeing patients in in an outreach clinic associated with William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.

One thing that has always been at the forefront of Dr. Walker's approach to practicing medicine has been his basic tenet that the ultimate goal is to provide the highest level of care possible for each and every patient. Whether he is treating a family member or a new patient, the treatment is the same, and his approach to determining the appropriate care for each patient is always to treat them like a family member and to always put the patient first.
